Abstract
1396402 Drying materials KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 26 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 19420/72 Headings F4B and F4G [Also in Division B1] Apparatus for treating granular material with a gas comprises a rotary drum 1 attached to a combustion chamber 3 by a pipe 15 into which opens a material feed pipe 18, an exhaust hood 6 connected to a cyclone separator 2, and a pipe 10 fed from the separator by a counterweighted flap 12 by which the charge material is returned as a conglomerate stream back to the drum. The latter may be fitted with a dam ring 1<SP>1</SP> a helical blade 1<SP>11</SP> or lifters (21, Figs. 2 and 3) which may be adjusted angularly from outside the drum. Treated material is discharged over a dam ring 20 and below a baffle 5 in the exhaust hood under control of a counterweight flap 14. In a modification (Fig. 4) the burner opens into the drum and charge material is fed into a recirculated waste gases tube surrounding the burner tube. In another modification (Fig. 5) the material is returned to the drum to travel in a counter current direction to the incoming gaseous suspension.
