Abstract

1392844 Valves SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 1 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20151/72 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] A burner has an atomizer with at least two series of orifices 42 and 43, each controlled by a corresponding valve 92 and 93 actuated by the internal pressure of the burner so as to open or close the valves sequentially. The valves 92 and 93 are telescopically mounted with respect to each other and coaxial with the axis of symmetry. The control element comprises a rod 70 lying on said axis and connected to a membrane 50 which is displaced by the pressure of fuel in a chamber 32. The valves 92 and 93 are biased to a closed position by adjustable springs 80 and 94 mounted on extensions 70b and 92a respectively of the rod 70. Rising pressure of fuel in the chamber 32 displaces the member 50, the rod 70 and the valve 92 to open the orifices 42 until th valve 92 abuts the valve 93 so that further displacement also includes valve 93 to open the orifices 43. The chamber 32 and two cylindrical chambers 30, 31 are separated by partitions 14 and 15 with orifices 14b and 15b for the passage of fuel and central openings 14a and 15a which serve as bearings for the rod 70. A nozzle 20 connected to the central chamber 31 supplies fuel to the burner. A cap 62 screwed to the inside of a chamber 63 secures the diaphragm 50 against a shoulder 13a on a wall 13 and has openings 62a which provide communication between the chamber 63 and the atmosphere.
