Abstract
1392755 Cathode constructions L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 24 April 1972 18999/72 Heading H1D A cathode for an electron gun comprises a tube 1 housing an electron emissive pellet 17 and having an extension comprising a divergent conical opening 7. The inside of the housing and the surface of the opening are machined, the latter whilst the pellet is in the housing; a spherical surface 13 is also machined in the pellet. The pellet is retained by a plug 9 with bosses 14 or by an intermediate annular washer. The plug is welded or crimped in the housing and has an opening 10 to allow evacuation. The opening 7 and Wehnalt member 8 are aligned. The tube is of Ta, W or Re, the pellet of LaB 6 , Ta, W or Re or of porous material. The construction reduces beam misalignment particularly during initial heating.
