Abstract

1392696 Breechblock safety devices WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK DERLIKON BUHRLE AG 25 July 1973 [28 July 1972] 35361/73 Heading F3C A longitudinally movable breechblock 2, 3 is prevented from reaching its firing position by a pivotal catch element 29, spring biased into the obstruction position, and a second catch element 49 spring biased from the obstruction position, the elements being held in the obstruction positions by engagement by a blocking element 39. The breechblock comprises a head 2 and a control element 3 driven by lugs 9 from spring driven sleeves 10 on either side of the breechblock. When the breechblock approaches the firing position, the left-hand sleeve 10 (lower sleeve, in Fig. 6), engages a tapered surface of the catch element 29 and is checked so that its lug contacts the rear wall 87 of a complementary groove, Fig. 4. The breechblock is still driven by the right-hand sleeve 10 (upper sleeve, in Fig. 6), until firing whereupon the control element 3 recoils but is checked by the forward moving left-hand sleeve 10. To prevent firing, a two-way valve 80, Fig. 7, is operated to connect an hydraulic piston 68 and cylinder 66 to a pressure supply, to operate, via a piston rod 69, 74 and bell cranks 61, a member which rotates the pivotal blocking element 39 to move outwardly the catch elements 29, 49 by engaging tapered surfaces thereof. Usually, the element 29 provides the safety function, but if this fails, the element 49 acts as such, the breechblock being allowed to move a small distance forward in the latter instance.
