An output rock shaft 4, Fig. 1 (not shown) passing through end caps 2 of a cylinder 1 is surrounded by a double-ended piston 12A keyed thereto at 11 and having a helical groove engaged by a cam follower 15 projecting radially inwardly from the cylinder wall whereby when fluid pressure is fed to either end of the cylinder, axial movement of the piston effects rocking of the shaft; the end of the forward stroke of the piston being cushioned by a restrictor valve 17
