Abstract

1390476 Small arms BENELLI SpA DIVISIONE ARMI 18 July 1973 [18 July 1972] 34117/73 Heading F3C A gun for hunting comprises a bolt assembly having a locking bolt head 1 and a floating element 9 which reciprocates axially with respect to the locking bolt head 1 and unlocks the latter during movement in one of the two axial directions, and a spring 10 which is interposed between the locking bolt head 1 and the floating element 9. The locking bolt head 1 has a surface 15 provided with projections 3 which are engagable in recesses 14 provided in the cylindrical internal surface of the breech 7, a surface 16 which is engagable with a surface 13 of the floating element 9 of the bolt and slidable thereon during initial internal movement of the floating element 9 after firing so as to maintain the projections 3 in the recesses 14 of the breech 7 and thus prevent a premature opening of the breech, the surfaces 16, 13 being parallel to the breech axis, and has surfaces 8 which are inclined with respect to the breech axis and are engagable with surfaces 12 of the floating element 9 and slidable thereon during the return movement of the latter so as to permit the projections 3 to disengage from the recesses 14 in the breech. The surface 15 of the locking bolt head, the projections 3 and the recesses 14 of the breech 7 are curved. The surfaces 16 of the locking bolt head 1 and the surfaces 13 of the floating element 9 are flat. The locking bolt head 1 has a cylindrical section which closes the cartridge chamber. During firing of the gun a cartridge 2 is retained in the cartridge chamber 17 by the locking bolt head 1 as shown in Fig. 1, the projections 3 being received by the recesses 14. The floating element 9 maintains its position for a time during the recoil movement of the gun and compresses the spring 10, the latter eventually moving the floating element away from the chamber 17 to the position shown in Fig. 2, the inclined surfaces 8, 12 of the locking head 1 and the floating element 9 respectively allowing disengagement of the projections 3 from the recesses 14 so that the locking head 1 can complete its recoil movement and cartridge case 21 can be ejected. The return of the bolt assembly effects re-loading of the chamber and locking of the bolt.
