Abstract

1392553 Cranes MACHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 24 July 1972 [31 July 1971] 34464/72 Heading B8H A crane comprises a support arrangement 3 which is guided by shafts (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), a rigid member 1 which is provided at its lower end with tongs (21), Fig. 2 (not shown), being mounted by means of a universal joint 2 on the support arrangement 3 for movement relative thereto in a vertical plane, such movement of the member 1 being resisted by means of a convex friction surface 4 at the upper end of the member 1 which engages with a concave friction surface 8 located on the bottom of a lever 6 which is rotatable at 7 relative to a support block 5 on the support arrangement 3. The lever 6 is associated at its free end with a pressure device 10 consisting of biased springs 11 and is supported at its said end by a mechanism 9. In operation of the crane if a horizontal force (H) acts on the member 1 sufficient to cause it to swing away from its normally vertical disposition, the mechanism 9 which can be electro-hydraulic apparatus acts to oppose the pressure device 10 to enable the member 1 to return to its vertical disposition. The springs 11 of the pressure device 10 are provided with means which permit the force exerted on the lever 6 to be adjusted. Damping means which are included in the mechanism 9 permit the return of the member 1 in a dampened manner.
