Abstract

1290737 ‹Door stays ED SCHARWACHTER KG 16 April 1970 18267/70 Heading E2A A door stay comprises a rod 1 with an enlarged part 19 movable past braking balls 6 in a hollow body 3, the balls being situated in a frustum shaped part of the body limited by a steel supporting surface 5 and a flat plate 7 displaceable against the pressure of a spring 8 resting on a cover 2 of the body. Holes 11 are provided on the cover and a flange 9 on the body for securing the body to a door. One end of the rod is pivotally secured to the door frame and the other end moves through the body secured to the door adjacent the hinge. As the door opens and closes the enlarged part 19 of the rod passes the friction bodies and in the fully open position of the door, as shown in Fig. 1, they prevent the door from inadvertently swinging closed. The rod may be rectangular or circular in cross section. The body may be rectangular or cylindrical and the braking elements may be cylindrical or in the form of blocks with a brake lining. The body may be mounted in a casing to be pivotable therein, Fig. 9 (not shown). The braking elements may comprise three segments of a frustum of a cone or of a hemisphere with a frusto-conical extension.
