Abstract

1392461 Developing silver halide materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 3 March 1972 [4 March 1971 (2)] 10149/72 Heading G2C A method of improving image sharpness by the 'adjacency effect' comprises developing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic emulsion layer in the presence of (1) an alkylene oxide polymer comprising a polyalkylene glycol or a condensation product of an alkylene oxide with an active hydrogen containing organic compound, wherein the alkylene oxide chain of the polymer has a molecular weight of at least 300 and (2) a compound represented by the Formula:- which does not enolize to form a mercapto group and in which Q represents the atoms required to complete a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic nucleus comprising a 5- or 6- membered ring containing the nitrogen atom shown and R is an alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group, all of which may be substituted. Examples of the polymer are N- methylmyristylamino polyethylene oxide, polypropylene glycol-bis-(polyethylene glycol) ether, polyethylene oxide-oleyl ether, -monolaurate,- nonylphenyl ether and -sorbitan monolaurate. The compounds may be contained in an element comprising the emulsion layer, in a developer solution or in a processing solution used prior to development e.g. a hardening bath.
