Abstract
1,234,632. Photographic dye-developer diffusion transfer process. EASTMAN KODAK CO Sept. 5, 1968 [Sept. 5, 1967], No.42323/68. Heading G2C. The invention resides in a method of producing a colour image by the photographic dye-developer diffusion transfer process in which a photographic material comprising a support and at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer which contains a dye developer or is contiguous to a layer containing a dye-developer, which has been exposed to a light image, is processed by allowing an alkaline liquid that causes the dye-developer to develop the latent image to permeate said layers and by allowing the residual, unoxidized, portions of the dye-developer to transfer imagewise by diffusion and in register to a receiving layer contained in a receiving material and in which there is present in the alkaline liquid an auxiliary silver halide developing agent of the formula: - each R and R 1 in said formulae being H, an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbonatoms which may be substituted, an alkenyl group, acycloalkyl group or a phenyl group. The auxiliary developing agent of the formula I, II or III is preferably formed before or during said permeation by hydrolysis by the alkaline liquid of a compound of the formula: - respectively, R and R 1 being as defined above. These latter compounds are preferably incorporated in the photographic material before said exposure, preferably in the outermost layer and preferably by coating the emulsion side of the material with a solution of the compound and removing the solvent e.g. acetonitrile or methanol. These compounds may be present at a concentration of 10 to 150 mg per square foot. The compounds use in the examples are 3, 7-bis (hydroxyethyl)- 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8-hexahydro-1, 5-dioxa-3, 7-diazaanthracene, 3, 6-bis(hydroxyethyl)-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7- hexahydro-1, 8-dioxa-3, 6-diazaphenanthrene, 3, 6-dimethyl-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7-hexahydro-1, 8-dioxa- 3, 6-diazaphenanthrene, 3, 6-diallyl-2, 3,4, 5, 6, 7- hexahydro-1, 8-dioxa-3, 6-diazaphenanthrene, and 3-hydroxyethyl-6-hydroxy-2, 3, 4-trihydro-1-oxa- 3-azanaphthalene. The heterocyclic compounds may be incorporated in a layer of the receiving material before said processing so that it dissolves (and hydrolyses) in the alkaline aqueous liquid before said permeation. The colour prints resulting from the process of this invention have low minimum densities and the auxiliary developing agents have good resistance to aerial oxidation.
