Abstract

1390070 Drawing WESTFALISCHE UNION AG 4 Dec 1972 [11 Jan 1972] 55930/72 Heading B3P A negative pressure, e.g. 30-50 Torr is produced in the interior of a drawing drum 3 in order to evaporate cooling water, supplied to the drum interior. In one embodiment, a suction is produced within the drum 3 by a vacuum pump 9 connected to a pipe 20, passages 21 in the drum hub or shaft 2 and a suction pipe 6 extending down to the lower end wall of the drum 3. Cooling water is caused to be drawn from a tank 13 and sprayed by pipes 10 onto the hot inner wall of the drum 3, whereupon it is evaporated due to the reduced pressure within the drum 3. Water is removed through the suction pipe 6 into a condenser 7 which has an outlet 8. In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), the suction and water cooling pipes 6, 10 are mounted in a stationary member (5) surrounding the drum shaft 2 at the lower end of the drum 3. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), two coaxial drums (14, 16) are provided with communicating conduits (17). Cooling water is supplied to either of the drums and a suction pipe is arranged in the other drum. Alternatively, both of the drums may be supplied with cooling water. The drum may also be externally cooled by compressed air.
