Abstract
1388588 Counting broken threads NORDISKA MASKINFILT AB 23 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 39344/72 Heading G4D [Also in Division G1] In an apparatus for detecting broken warp threads in a weaving machine a laser light beam 9 is made to rotate (see arrows 16 in Fig. 2), by a rotating hollow shaft 12 and optical element 13 the beam being received by a photoelectric cell 10 with a collecting input screen. Alternatively the beam can be made to reciprocate. As can be seen from Fig. 2, the light beam should, under normal conditions, intercept the warp threads 2 four times each rotation, thus the output pulses of the photo-cell above a predetermined level are counted for a predetermined number of revolutions and then compared with a predetermined number and if it is exceeded, indicating a thread hanging down &c., a signal is generated (Fig. 3, not shown), which stops the weaving machine and/or operates an alarm. So that any loose lower warp threads can still be scanned by the beam a catching device 15 is provided for the loose threads to lie on and thus be detected. Disturbances occurring within different portions of the area of movement of the light beam may be detected by employing several clocks which connect and disconnect individual counters for registration of the situation in the corresponding portion in synchronism with the beam.
