Abstract

1388185 Exercising chair W L BIGGERSTAFF 7 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 16099/72 Heading A6M [Also in Division A4] An exercising chair comprises a base 12 (composed of legs 18, 20, 22, 24) a seat member 14 and a back rest 16, the seat and back being pivotally interconnected at 82 and the seat and back being respectively pivotally connected to the base 12 at 66 and 100, the arrangement being such that the seat member and the back rest can be moved relative to the frame between the position shown in Fig. 1 and that shown in Fig. 4. The pivot 66 is arranged to slide in slots 64 in the ends of legs 22, 27 and an elastic member 67 is arranged between the seat frame 14 and the base 12. The chair can be used in the upright position shown in Fig. 1 (in which the seat is held by the pivots 66 engaging detents (78) in slots 64 (Fig. 5) or, by pushing forward on the seat frame, in a reclining position shown in Fig. 3. In this latter position the chair can be used for exercising movements of the torso by pushing down on the back or seat frames against the action of the elastic means 67 (Fig. 4). A foot rest 104 slideable in and out of the seat frame may be provided. Arms 28 and 30 can also be provided and these are pivoted for movement at the connection of the back frame and the base and arranged so that they can be moved inwardly against the action of spring means so as to provide for the exercising of chest muscles and also pivotally in a vertical plane. The chair is also arranged to fold flat (Fig. 12, not shown) for storage and carrying.
