Abstract
1387566 Treating fibres COURTAULDS Ltd 30 March 1972 [2 March 1971] 5750/71 Heading D1F A tow of synthetic or regenerated e.g. acrylic or viscose, continuous filaments, is filled, opened or separated and perhaps crimped in preparation for stapling and/or spinning or formation into a fleece. It is produced by suspending a running tow in the form of a spread band in a flowing liquid e.g. water, which may contain a fibre finishing material, passing through a divergent passage or channel, overfeeding the spread tow onto a moving foraminous support e.g. a wire mesh screen, to separate it from the liquid and form a coherent web which is dried and then stretched to restore it to tow form. Suction may be applied underneath the support where the tow is first deposited.
