Abstract
1385335 Making spouts; punching; shearing BRINIL SA 2 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 4845/72 Headings B3A and P3W A machine for forming pouring spouts for non-metallic packages comprises a series of punches and strip bending elements which are spaced apart from one another longitudinally of a pathway for the passage of metal strip, the first punch of the series punching rectangular holes in the strip into which holes a reciprocable hinged pin is engaged sequentially to feed the strip stepwise through the machine, and a punch and die assembly associated with the first punch for forming in the strip, simultaneously with the forming of the holes, cut portions constituting wings of the finished pouring spout; means for inserting the pouring spouts sequentially each into an aperture in a package; and means for attaching the spouts thereto. The stepwise feeding of the strip through punches 25, 26, Fig. 4, which form wings e 2 and the hole of a spout, Fig. 8, is effected by engagement of a pivoted lever 21, Fig. 2, in the hole, the lever being mounted on a cam operated reciprocable carriage 20. The punched strip then passes to a punch and die 30, 38, Fig. 5, which forms lugs e and bends the wings upwardly. Reciprocating motion is imparted to the punch 30 by a piston 31 mounted on a crank 33 and to the die 38 by rods 39 and a plate 40, Fig. 6, spring biased towards a cam 42. Finally the strip is moved to a position above a pin 48, Fig. 10 so that when the latter is moved upwardly by a crank operated piston 46, it engages the hole. The spout is sheared from the strip and inserted into a package E.
