Abstract
1384730 Welding by fusion RIKAGAKU KENKYUSHO 17 Nov 1972 [19 Nov 1971] 53375/72 Addition to 1346790 Heading B3R [Also in Division H5] The plasma jet generator of the parent Specification 1,346,760, is modified by gas shielding the plasma flame from a bushing 103 located about the common plasma nozzle c of the earlier case. The bushing comprises a gas inlet 104 to a first annular chamber 105 which communicates with a second chamber 16 via sixteen apertures 107. The effect of the shielding is to keep the concentration of the working gas of the plasma flame high by using a similar gas in the shield, e.g. oxygen, the gas concentrations being sampled from the gas extractor outlet 113. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a second bushing arrangement forming a skirt for discharging a powder coating. Active gas may be oxygen or nitrogen for use in cutting of aluminium and iron or nitride coating respectively.
