1384547 Closures for packages; cartons DRG PACKAGING Ltd 7 April 1972 [27 July 1971] 35148/71 Headings B8C and B8P A package comprises a container 10, Fig. 1 with an out-turned peripheral flange 14 on at least two opposite sides and a removable cover 12 for the container, the cover having a main panel 16 and on opposite sides of the main panel, a pair of subsidiary panels 20, 20 an outer part of each subsidiary panel being secured in face to face contact with the surface of the main panel 16 and an inner part being unsecured so that the flanges of the container can be received between the main panel and the unsecured inner portion of the subsidiary panels, whereby the cover is retained on the container. As shown, the panels 20, 20 which are glued to the main panel 16 in the region of hinge lines 18, each have an inner flap 22 joined to the panels 20 by a line of weakening 24, whereby the flaps 22 engage side walls 13 of the container 10. The bottom of the container may be transparent and a flexible membrane 26, Fig. 3, may be peelably sealed to the flanges 14 and at one end, secured to the panel 16 so that the membrane may be separated from the container 10 as the latter is pushed from the cover. In another arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), the container is of triangular crosssection and only one flap 22 is provided. In a further arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), for carrying eggs (34), the container includes a separate insert (30). In a modification of the Fig. 5 arrangement, the cover 12 forms the bottom of the package and the insert (30) forms the container and a part (11) forms the closure, which may be applied over the container after attachment of the cover. In the arrangement according to Fig. 6, the container 10 is formed with flanges 14 at its bottom edges and moulded inserts in its top surface and the panel 16 extends over the bottom of the container. A top closure is provided by a pair of overlapping panels 38 hinged to the top panel via side panels 40 and adhered or provided with flaps or tabs of known kind. Alternatively a single top panel may be provided with a single panel 40 at its outer edge secured to the main panel 16.
