Abstract

138,433. Woodroffe, F. K. Feb. 14, 1919. Vacuum and pressure cleaning-apparatus.-Relates to portable or domestic pneumatic apparatus for cleaning or other purposes wherein a fan with its operating electric motor are employed and, in some cases a rotary brush which is driven from the motor, the apparatus being used for producing vacuum or pressure. The apparatus comprises the two portions 2, 10 readily movable in relation to, or detachable from, one another, the upper portion 2 containing the motor and fan and an air inlet or branch 4 and the discharge mouth 7, while the lower portion constitutes the base on which the upper portion is carried and hinged at 22 or otherwise movably connected. The rotary brush 11 is driven through speed-reducing gear and through clutch mechanism 20, 18, part of which is on or connected with the fan, and part on or connected with the mechanism in the base. For cleaning walls &c., the upper portion of the apparatus is raised about the hinge so that, the inlet to the fan casing being exposed, a nozzle may be attached thereto. For cleaning linoleum, wood floors, &c., a shallow padded base-casing is substituted for the wheeled lower portion. By attaching a pipe to the discharge mouth 7, air may be blown or forced upon the surfaces to be cleaned. When a plain base is employed, the inlet for the air used for blowing is protected by wire-gauze. A suitable handle 30 is provided.
