Abstract
1383987 Gas-fuelled lighters; burners S T DUPONT 4 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 40871/72 Headings F4F and F4T A burner head for a gas lighter comprises concentric nozzles 8, 9 coaxial with a channel 6 through which gas is injected from a fuel reservoir and which terminates just below the lower edge of the inner nozzle 8, the outer nozzle 9 having a collar 11 provided with air inlets 12. The arrangement is such that a fuel mixture containing little air enters the inner nozzle 8 resulting in an unstable yellow flame 13 whereas a mixture containing a large proportion of air enters the outer nozzle resulting in a blue flame 14 serving to relight the yellow flame should it be extinguished. The outer nozzle 9 may extend beyond the inner nozzle to provide a flame guard, and be connected thereto by crosspieces 10 or the nozzles may be coextensive and connected by radial partitions or by a perforated annular plate. The gas supply is regulated by a compressible porous pellet 5 controlled by a threaded movable member 4.
