Abstract

1383946 Marine fenders BORG-WABNER CORP 21 July 1972 [8 Sept 1971] 34260/72 Heading B7S [Also in Division F2] A dock fender structure comprises a stationary member in the form of the wharf 10 and a movable member 12 positioned to be struck by a craft adjacent to the structure. Energy absorbing elements connected between the two members comprise spaced cantilevered beams 15, 16 carried by member 12 and projecting towards member 10 and a single cantilevered beam 17 carried by member 10 and projecting reciprocably between beams 15, 16. A first block 19 of elastomeric material is mounted to deflect in shear between the single beam and one of the spaced beams and second block 19a of elastomeric material is mounted between the single beam and the other of the spaced beams. The mounting for each elastomeric block includes metal plates 24/25 adjacent each end of the block. Each metal plate has a recessed central portion 26 embedded in and bonded to the block and has marginal portions 27 free of elastomeric material projecting from opposite sides of the block. The central portion has holes 29 through which portions of the block extend from one face of the plate to the other and the marginal portions 27 are secured to the beams by screws through holes 28.
