Fenders 1, 2 protecting underwater members (e.g. supports 3, 3<SP>1</SP> of platform 4) comprise plate members 16, 17 (which in the embodiment shown are parts of an I beam 18) and a connecting member 19 forming an opening to accommodate elastomeric bumper elements (one of which is shown pictorially in Fig. 4) held in engagement with each other by securing means, e.g. a bolt and nut 11, extending between the plate members. The element in Fig. 4 has holes 25 and 26 for two securing bolts, and is provided with a recess 27 which allows for expansion upon the element being compressed. The fenders 1, 2 in Fig. 1 each have two rows of bumper elements. The empty opening opposite the member 19 in Fig. 2 can also accommodate bumper elements, such a two-sided arrangement being useful when the fender is not attached to the support (as in Fig. 1) hub is to be suspended between the support and a craft.
