Abstract
1383920 Conveyers in mines COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [31 Dec 1971 9 Feb 1972 17 April 1972] 60946/71 6057/72 and 17566/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division E1] In extending a colliery roadway 2, excavation material is conveyed by a belt conveyer 8, which is extensible, and carries a ramming head 44 for compressing the material, so as to form a pack 6 in the goaf area. The conveyer belt runs over fixed pulleys 28, 30, and 32, and pulleys 38, 40, carried by members 12 slidable relative to respective guides 26 rigid with the frame. The members 12 are extended by the action of a winch (not shown). The ramming head 44 is supported by a castor wheel 14. A screen 60 prevents large lumps of material from being fed by the conveyer 8. A series of support rollers 45 for the conveyer belt, extend and contract with the conveyer. Second modification (Figs. 7, 8 snd 11), which is adapted for packaging material into goaf areas 181, 182 (Figs. 16 and 22), on opposite sides of the roadway 180. The conveyer belt 8 is replaced by a pair of parallel-disposed oppositelyacting pushing devices 115, 116 (Fig. 8). These have respective pushing heads 119, 120, each of which is on the end of a respective box-shaped cross-section member 126, slidable within a correspondingly shaped fixed outer housing member 125, under the action of an hydraulic ram 128. Material excavated from the roadway 180 drops on to a platform 106, and (if necessary by extending a ram 169) slides on to a deck 110 of the main frame on which the pushing heads 119, 120, are slidable. The head 120 is for pushing material into one goaf area 182 (Fig. 16), the head 119 pushing material into the other goaf area 181, after the first goaf area has been packed in (Fig. 22). Under the deck 110 is a rectangular cross-section tubular frame structure 109, 111 (seen in cross-sectional plan view in Fig. 11), in which a carriage 137 is slidably mounted. Fixed to a base-plate 142 rigid with the middle of the carriage 137, are the mountings of the cylinders of two hydraulic rams 145, 146. The latter each carry at their outer ends material pushing heads 152. In operation (Fig. 16), a prop 183 is positioned at the entrance to the goaf area 181, and the jack 145 is extended while its respective head 152 engage the prop 183. The carriage 137 is thus extended into the goaf area 182, and the ram 146 is repeatedly extended and contracted so that its head 152 packs in the material. When the pack in the goaf area is completed (Fig. 21, not shown), the head 152 of the ram 146 is backed up against the pack and by extending the ram, the carriage 137 is extended into the goaf area 181. The pack is then formed in this area by operation of the pushing head 119 and ram 145, in the same way that the previous pack was formed under the action of the pushing head 120 and ram 146. Third modification (Fig. 27).-Material from a roadway 200 falls on to an endless belt conveyer 212 and is conveyed thereby into the goaf area 202. The conveyer 212 carries a pushing blade 224, and the latter is used to form the pack by reciprocation of the whole conveyer 212 under the action of two parallel hydraulic rams 214. The location of the connection of the latter on the machine frame may be varied between points 215, 216, or 217. (For Figures see next page.)
