1381965 Detachable furniture hinges R HEINZE [trading as RICHARD HEINZE] 4 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971] 36413/72 Heading E2F A furniture hinge assembly comprises the combination of a reception socket 16a, Fig. 7, in, on or adapted to be inserted in a door or wall of an article of furniture and a hinge, Fig. 6, having an insert member 1a, the insert member being received in said socket and being releasably retained therein by means of a bayonet coupling (24a, 25a). In the case of furniture formed of synthetic material, the socket may be formed integrally in the door or wall of the article. The socket 16a is provided with an axial slot 26a and the bayonet coupling includes surfaces which are oblique and cause the socket, upon rotation of the insert member in the socket, to expand in diameter and become firmly fixed in a bore 16a' in the article of furniture. Rotation of the socket in the bore is prevented by the provision of an axial rib 20, but alternatively, the external configuration of the socket and the bore may be hexagonal. The socket may alternatively be driven and/or glued in the bore. In an alternative embodiment, Figures 1 and 2 (not shown), the insert member is additionally provided with a pair of catch lugs (13) which engage in pockets (22) extending inwardly from the wall of the socket. The socket may be further provided with circumferential grooves (19), and an annular rim (30) which receives a flange 10 of the insert member, the flange 10 being for the purpose of concealing the coupling between the insert member and socket. The insert member 1a and hinge arm 2 are connected by hinge levers 5 and 6 which are pivotally connected to the insert member and hinge arm by pivot pins 3 and 4.
