Abstract

1280536 Releasable fastenings CARR FASTENER CO Ltd 31 March 1970 [6 June 1969] 28830/69 Heading E2B Fastener means for securing two members a, b to one another, comprises a pair of expansible bushes and a connecting part, each bush consisting of a body 1 made of resilient, semi-rigid plastics material, and formed with a bore which is tapered in the region of expansibility of the bush and the connecting part consisting of a shank 7 made of resilient, semi-rigid plastics material and formed with end portions for snapping engagement with the bushes, each end portion being of such diameter as to act to expand the corresponding bush when engaged therein and formed with longitudinally spaced shoulders 9, 10 engageable with the bush to secure the connecting part thereto. In the construction shown each of the bushes has a flange 2 and the bore in each in addition to the tapered portion has a portion which extends inwardly from the flanged end of the body which is of greater diameter than the maximum diameter of the tapered portion and which is joined to the tapered portion by a sloping surface formed in the bore between the inner ends of the bore portions. In addition the body is formed with axial slots (not shown) so that the tapered bore portion is defined by segments of the body. The fastener allows the two members which are fastened together to be disposed at an angle and also allows for any slight misalignment of the members. The members can be parts of an article of furniture or a wooden wall panel and a wall structure.
