Abstract

1381929 Boring earth &c D U BRINKMAN 21 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 13105/72 Heading E1F Apparatus for boring earth beneath a pavement 20 comprises a frame 10 having a member 17 for engagement with the edge of the pavement, a carriage movable along the frame and supporting a motor 23, a shaft 27 having a bit 44, a shaft support 28 depending from the carriage to move the shaft with the carriage, a support 29 depending from the frame to guide the shaft, a chain 32 drivingly connecting the shaft with the motor, and means 46, 47 to pull the carriage towards the member 17 to cause the bit to bore the hole. The winch 46 is mounted on the frame and the cable 47 is connected to the support 28 depending from the carriage. The chain is driven from the motor by means of a centrifugal clutch 24 and a reduction gear 26. A universal joint 35 is incorporated in the shaft which has a flushing fluid connection 40. The member 17 may be set at an inclination to the frame to bore holes at an angle to the pavement. In a modification an endless chain pulls the carriage towards and away from the member 17.
