Abstract
1380737 Electro-photographic imaging RANK XEROX Ltd 3 March 1972 10040/72 Heading G2H A method of recording an image on an insulating material having persistent photo-conductivity properties comprises irradiating areas of the material with a laser beam to blacken the surface thereof in the irradiated areas; uniformly charging the material after irradiation to produce an electrostatic latent image thereon; and developing the latent image. The laser may be an Ar laser, a He- Ne laser, a ruby laser or an ion laser. The photoconductive material may comprise an insulating resin mixed with dye absorbed ZnO or TiO 2 . The material may be coated on aluminium foil and set on a drum which is rotated relative to a fixed laser beam generator for irradiation. The developer may comprise phtholocyanine green, phtholocyanine blue or carbon black in kerosene. The phthalocyanine produces a coloured image on a black background. Charging may be by conventional corona device.
