Abstract

1406794 Half-tone electrophotography XEROX CORP 25 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 3790/73 Heading G2H The contrast of a half-tone reproduction of an original is controlled by using the original to form an array of dots, or other information elements, as higher charged parts of an electrostatic latent image, surrounded by lower charged areas, and developing with a liquid developer which initially adheres to the higher-charged parts only and subsequently migrates into the lower-charged areas. The size of each developer dot so formed depends on its original size and on the charges of the dots and surrounding areas. Methods of controlling these include control of the exposure of a photoconductive surface and defocusing of an incident pattern of electromagnetic radiation. Adjustment of dot size may be used to correct colour balance in multi-colour reproduction, e.g. by the making of lithographic printing plates.
