Abstract

JUSTRITE MFG CO 14 Dec 1971 [14 Dec 1970 16 Dec 1970] 31758/71 Headings B8D B8T and B8X A plastics container has a neck 29 fitted with a spring-biased cap 23, and carries a handle and linkage assembly 22 mounted on a fin 24 on the top of the container. The assembly 22 comprises a handle 42 pivoted at 41 and carrying a pin 46 running in a slot 45 on a linkage bar 44, which is connected to an L-shaped assembly 51 provided with a spring 39 to keep the cap 23 closed. The handle 42 is normally biased in direction A by the spring 43a, 43b, but when moved in direction B, the pin 46 runs in the slot 45 until it reaches the end and the assembly 51 moves about pivot 40 and raises the cap 23. If desired, a cup and hose combination may be positioned on the container below the neck (Figs. 2-4, not shown). The pressure of the spring 39 is such that the cap can be raised automatically should the internal pressure be too high. In a second embodiment, Fig. 15, there is provided a filling vent 183 in addition to the pouring vent 182. To fill the container, the handle 235 is moved to the left and the bracket 160 is manually raised, thus lifting the cap 23. To open the vent 182, the operation is similar to the first embodiment, except that when the handle 235 is pushed as far as possible to the right, the wheel 231 engages the bracket 160 and raises the cap 23. In another modification, the handle may be allowed to swing freely and only operate the linkage when it is connected to it (Figs. 7- 11, not shown).
