Abstract

1329471 Portable containers; venting containers; container closures SAINT-GOBAIN 14 Dec 1970 [12 Dec 1969] 59310/70 Headings B8D B8T and B8X A blow-moulded plastics jerrican 3 is provided with a spout 4 incorporating a pouring tube 5 spaced from the internal wall of the spout to form an air passage which is connected to the interior of the jerrican only by an external air vent duct 2. The air duct additionally constitutes a hollow handle for the jerrican. Although the pouring tube may be integral with the spout, it is preferably detachable and has an enlarged end 6 seating on a spout seat 7 to seal the inner end of the air passage from the jerrican interior. Separate or integral spacer ribs or fins 8, 9 locate the pouring tube within the spout. The spout is provided with a screwcap 10 having a convergent side wall 11 which pinches the end of the pourer. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pouring tube is telescopingly mounted in a necked portion 15 of the spout. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the pouring tube 17 is provided with coaxial spaced integral sleeve 18 which is force-fitted into the spout and provided with slots or apertures 21. A screw cap 10 has a base wall engaging the rim of the tube 17.
