Abstract

1380708 Counting apparatus ELMEG ELEKTRO-MECHANIK GmbH 22 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59809/71 Heading G4D The numeral drum 12 of a counter can be driven electromagnetically through either or both of two drive gears 1, 2 by a differential gear 6-8 located inside the numeral drum. The arrangement is suitable where the individual digits of a multidigit register are to be directly driven by a computer for instance. Each drum is as shown and they can be located side by side without excessive spacing. The electromagnets (not shown), which drive the gears 1, 2 through a stepping drive can be arranged either additively or subtractively permitting any of ten numerals on the drum to be reached in no more than the time for five actuations of the stepping drive. The two drive gears 1, 2 can be located on the same side of the numeral drum. The numerals can be designed to print or to be read. The numeral drum can be made wide enough to cover both gears 1, 2.
