Abstract
138,031. Hathaway, A. H., and Hathaway, A. H. July 26,1919. Clinometers.-Relates to clinometers in which a pendulum arm co-acts with a ball &c. working within a circular track, and consists mainly in mounting the ball or balls within a smooth-bore race of circular cross-section. The race c is formed by a pair of annular members c<1>, c<2> of channel section placed together, a space c<3> being left into which pass the arms a<1>, a<2> of the pendulum member a, the balls d being disposed between the arms a<1> a<2>. The member a is pivoted on an horizontal axis b and carries a pointer a<4> co-acting with an annular graduated strip f. The whole apparatus is enclosed in a casing having a giass cover e<2>. In order to adjust the zero, the strip f mav have external teeth f<1> gearing with the pinion f<2>, which can be turned by the head f<4>. In a modification the member a is of circular shape having a V-shaped opening, and is provided with lugs projecting into the ball-race.
