Differential speed indicators modifying scale of readings.-A cone 1, driven at a constant speed from the engine &c. shaft 4 through a centrifugal slipping-clutch 15 and toothed gearing 25, 26, 27, is in frictional engagement with a roller 2 carried by a variable-speed screwed shaft 3 driven from the engine &c. shaft 4 through spur and bevel gearing. Translational movement of the roller 2 is communicated to a graduated disk 34 through a rack 30 connected thereto and engaging a toothed snail wheel 31 mounted on the spindle of the indicating disk, the contour of the wheel 31 being arranged to give a regular scale, and the rack being carried by arms 28 moving under spring control about bosses 29 upon the roller 2, so as to maintain engagement with the snail wheel. A revolution-direction indicating-hand is driven from the shaft 3 through gearing 39, 40, 41 and bevel gearing on the shaft 43.
