Abstract

1379006 Reducing ribbon winding ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 26 March 1973 [18 April 1972] 14359/73 Heading D1J To avoid or reduce ribbon winding in a yarn package driven at constant peripheral speed the traverse rate is in the form of a minor modulated waveform 20-20, Fig. 4, continuously superimposed within a cyclic major modulated set point waveform 21-21, said waveforms being a plot of frequency versus time for electrical input into the drive means for driving the yarn traverse, the minor modulated waveform having an amplitude of between 1 and 6 per cent of the mean frequency and a period of 0.5 to 5 seconds, the major modulated waveform having an amplitude of 2 to 12 per cent of said mean frequency and a period of 0.25 to 2.0 minutes, and the minor amplitude being less than onehalf the major amplitude. Fig. 7 shows an alternative plot of out-put frequency versus time. Fig. 1 shows a motor 3 driving a yarn traverse device 2 that feeds the yarn 1 onto a print roller 4. The print roller 4 transfers the yarn 1 onto a package 5. The package 5 is driven by surface drive means that is intended to be part of the equipment within the box 10. The traverse motor 3 is fed by a line 9 from an inverter 7 and the print roller motor is fed by a line 8 from an inverter 6. The inverters have speed control knobs 11 and 12. Fig. 2 (not shown) shows how a rotating potentiometer is connected to an inverter to modulate the set point, for example as shown by the major. modulation in Fig. 4.
