Abstract

1303630 Winding packages IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Feb 1970 [4 March 1969] 11490/69 Heading B8M [Also in Division D1] In a process for building yarn or string packages coincidence of lay deflection groups, i.e. end face ridging, is reduced by imposing a modification on the ribbon-breaking waveform, the process being one in which the wind ratio (bobbin rotational frequency/traverse frequency) varies. Ribbon breaking is defined as a short term cyclical variation of the traverse speed, and the ribbon breaking waveform is defined by the amplitude and time period of the modifying variation of the traverse speed and is chosen empirically. The modification may be in the form of a modulated triangular or sinusoidal wave or be in the form of random noise. The percentage modification of the ribbon breaking waveform, i.e. the percentage change about the mean frequency or mean amplitude or both of the ribbon breaking waveform is greater than 2% preferably between 2 and 50%, e.g. 5-30%.
