Abstract

1378424 Mixing flowing liquids; spraying F E IVES 3 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 5161/72 Headings B1C and B2F A static homogenizer for liquids of widely differing proportions and viscosities comprises a tortuous flow path with by-pass passages providing cross-currents. As shown in Fig. 5 the flow guide 17 is a helical insert and the by-pass passages are formed as notches 25. The rows of notches may be axial as shown, or skew (see Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) and may be replaced by axial or skew rows of perforations in the helical flight (see Figs. 8-10, not shown). In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the homogenizer is arranged between an initial mixing chamber 3 and a spray nozzle 9 in a spray gun to which liquid polyester resin and catalyst are metered (by means not depicted) through respective regulating valves 5, 8, check valves 12, 13 and ducts 2, 6. A flushing solvent may be supplied through valve 11. In another embodiment, Fig. 11, the homogenizer is arranged vertically for gravity flow.
