Abstract

1377606 Planter RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd 17 Nov 1971 [19 Nov 1970] 55044/70 Heading AID A planting machine has hoppers 7 each with a floor 31 the inclination of which relative to a conveyor 9 being adjustable so that the rate of supply of potatoes to a planting device 11 can be maintained at a predetermined value when the machine is operated on ground of varying slope. The whole hopper is pivoted about a tubular support 79 by means of a hydraulic ram 83 to alter the floor inclination. In a modification control devices which operate the ram 83 automatically to tilt the hopper so that potatoes are fed to the ground at a predetermined rate when the machine is operated on ground of varying slope comprise a lamp, photocell and counter. Instead of the counter, the voltage of a capacitor can be used to determine the planting rate.
