Abstract
1376433 Diaphragm vibrators R A ABSALOM 4 Nov 1971 [7 Nov 1970 20 April 1971] 53087/70 and 10310/71 Heading G5J [Also in Division H3] An electric sound-producing device comprises a resilient diaphragm of ferromagnetic material which is made to vibrate under the action of an electromagnet supplied from an electronic oscillator with short duration pulses at a repetition frequency substantially less than the natural frequency of the diaphragm. The diaphragm 15, Fig. 1, contains a central flat portion 16 and an external rib 19 which clips into an internal groove in the cap 11. The body 10 and cap 11 can be adjusted to give the required airgap between the flat portion 16 of the diaphragm and the electromagnet core 22 by means of abutments 12 on the body and inclined ramp faces in the cap. In alternative embodiments the cap can be replaced by an acoustic resonator or by a horn. Each embodiment of the device can employ any one of four circuits to produce the current waveform, either in the form of a continuous output or, if controlled by a multivibrator or sawtooth pulse generator, in the form of an intermittent output in the coil windings, said windings forming an integral part of the oscillator circuit.
