Abstract

1339103 Piezoelectric generators FIAT SpA 6 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 10334/72 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] A piezoelectric generator comprises a piezoelectric crystal 24 provided with electrical connections 34, 36, a support 22 for the piezoelectric crystal formed at least partially of magnetostrictive material and energizing means having an electrical winding 14 arranged to be supplied 13, 15 with an electrical pulse to generate magnetic flux in the magnetostrictive material so as to stress the crystal sufficiently to produce an electrical voltage across the electrical connections 34, 36. As shown, the crystal 24 is located diametrically across a ring shaped support or core 22. In a modification the core is elongated and the crystal is located in one side of it. In another modification the core is a closed loop core having two limbs, one or which carries the electrical winding, the core being fixed at one end to a support and bearing at its opposite end against the crystal.
