Abstract

1,128,050. Clocks and watches. UNITED STATES TIME CORP. Dec.31, 1965 [Jan.2, 1965], No.55462/65. Heading G3T. [Also in Division H3] An electronic timepiece comprises a permanent magnet 10 and a coil 14 mounted for relative mechanical oscillation, the coil 14 acting both as a pick-up coil and as a drive coil for maintaining the relative mechanical oscillation, a source 16 of direct current, an RC network, e.g. a condenser 26 and resistor 24, and an astable multi-vibrator including complementary transistors 18, 20 the emitters of which are connected together, and wherein the collector of the transistor 18 is connected to the current source 16, and the collector of the transistor 20 is connected to one end of the coil 14. In the illustrated embodiment the magnet 10 oscillates relatively to a fixed coil 14, the mechanical oscillation being started by the closing of a switch (not shown) whereby the condenser 26 charges through the resistor 24 to apply a negative voltage to the base of the transistor 18 so that current flows through the transistors 18, 20 in series to produce a current pulse in the coil 14. At the same time the condenser 26 discharges through the transistors 18, 20 which then become non-conducting to be rendered conducting again by each voltage pulse generated in the coil 14 by the relative movement of the coil and magnet.
