Abstract

1303455 Electric timepieces COMPAGNIE DES MONTRES LONGINES FRANGILLION S A and BERNARD GOLAY S A 21 July 1970 [12 Aug 1969] 35342/70 Heading G3T In a frequency stabilizing arrangement within an electronic timepiece, a phase comparator in the form of a bistable circuit including transistors 13, 15 Fig.3 is switched to one state (both conducting) by pulses at the frequency of oscillation of a vibratory motor having coils 1 and is switched to its other state by a signal at a reference frequency f o from a stable oscillator (not shown) (or from a stable oscillator via a frequency divider) applied via a transistor 16. The duration of the conduction period of Tr13, Tr15 is dependent upon the difference in frequency between the motor resonance frequency and f o , the greater the motor vibration rate relative to the reference frequency the longer the ON times of the bistable and viceversa. Output pulses from the bistable are integrated by C18 R19 and the direct voltage at a point II is a function of the deviation of the motor frequency from the reference f o . This voltage is applied to a varicap diode 20. When the voltage at point II increases the capacity of diode 20 increases and vice-versa. The diode 20 being connected to the motor coil 1 tends to shift the resonance frequency of the motor to the correct value f o . The motor coil 1 moves in a magnetic field and a sinusoidal voltage induced thereacross is applied via C7 across the base/emitter of a transistor 6. Tr 6 thus produces current pulses through R8 R9 thereby causing current pulses from Tr 10 which sustain the oscillations of the motor. When a pulse appears at the collector of Tr 6 a transistor 11 conducts and rapidly changes a capacitor 12. Simultaneously a pulse is applied to the bistable transistor 13 turning it ON and consequently Tr 15 conducts and remains conducting until Tr 16 is turned ON by f o . The repetition rate of the said pulse applied to Tr 13 corresponds to the motor frequency. Alternatively the motor may be driven directly by the reference frequency.
