Abstract
1376311 Electric couplings BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 29 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 8112/71 Heading H2E A tapping connector comprises a channel shaped body 2 having inwardly directed abutments 6 and complementary wedges 7 and 8. In use, a service cable conductor 4 or pair of conductors 3 is urged into contact with a phase conductor of a distribution cable supported by the web of the body by the wedges 7 and 8 which are driven into the body with the orientation shown in Fig. 2, and held there by the abutments which bear directly or indirectly on wedge 8. As shown, the web of the channel conforms to the shape of the conductor 1. The abutments 6 may have stepped portions to receive a prestressed leaf-spring 5 to enhance the conductor contact pressure. The wedges are formed with fine grooves 11 designed to break the oxide layer on the surface of conductors 3 or 4, and stepped grooves 10. The wedges and body need not be made of high conductivity material.
