Abstract

1375969 Offshore structures KAISER STEEL CORP 7 Dec 1971 22027/74 Divided out of 1375968 Heading E1H A module for forming an offshore structure comprises a plurality of legs 24 connected by bracing 26, at least one leg having at one end guide means for aligning the module with a similar module so that the two modules may be connected together. Preferably the modules are joined when floating in a horizontal position. The guide means preferably take the form of a number of projecting strips 56 secured to one or each end of each leg 24. the strips being tapered at their free ends to facilitate guiding of the two modules together. When the modules are abutting, Fig. 6, opposed U-clamps 58, 60 may be secured over recessed lugs 68 and tightened by a pneumatic cylinder 72a, and the two modules joined permanently by welding. When the requisite number of modules have been joined the legs are ballasted with water to locate the completed structure in an upright position on the sea bed. The Specification also describes a coffer dam device for use in making the connection between two modules, which device is described and claimed in Specification 1375970.
