Abstract
1375086 Valves GAZ DE FRANCE 20 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43622/72 Heading F2V A safety valve for mounting on a vertically disposed pipe comprises a valve seat 18 and a pivoted flap 17 which is retained against the closing action of a counterweight 40 by means of a piston 52 subjected to fluid pressure in a chamber 53. When the pressure is reduced, the flap closes automatically. The piston acts on one end 47 of a pivoted stirrup 30, which, at its other end, is pivotally connected to the flap and to the counterweight. In the closed position of. the valve, fluid can leak through passages 62, 60, 61 in the flap to equalize small pressure differences and thereby enable the flap to be readily re-opened by re-pressurizing the chamber 53. For large pressure differentials, however, a ball 63 closes the leak passages, and, to equalize the pressure on each side of the flap, it is necessary to insert a tool down a tube 11 to open a valve 56. The valve is contained in a housing 12 which can be screwed on to the vertically disposed pipe. In another embodiment, Fig. 8, the flap 117 is retained on its seat by a spring 80 acting on the stirrup 30. A pin 74 extending from a spring-loaded arm 70 closes a pressure equalizing port 76. Downward movement of the end 50 of a piston first causes the pressure equalization port 76 to open and thereafter the flap 117.
