Abstract

1373576 Production of gaseous fuels R W HENES 19 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 18023/72 Heading F4T [Also in Division B1] Apparatus for producing oxygenated gaseous fuel comprises: a source of pressurized oxygencontaining gas, a first conduit for connecting the source of pressurized gas to the interior of a tank containing liquid fuel at a point below the surface of the liquid fuel, whereby the gas is bubbled upwardly through the fuel to produce oxygenated vapourized fuel in the tank above the liquid surface, and an outlet conduit through which the vapourized fuel passes to a combustor. As shown the source of pressurized gas is supplied from two A.C. solenoid operated compressors 22, 23 compressing ambient air and supplying the compressed air via conduits 24, 25 and 27 to the interior of the tank 20, the gas then bubbling to the surface of the liquid fuel 28. Vapours of the volatile liquid fuel form in the air to provide an oxygenated gaseous fuel above the liquid which passes through the outlet conduit 38 to a flexible conduit 11, the free end of which is attached to a burner (12) or a torch (13) (Fig. 1, not shown). The tank is provided with a removable filler cap 44 and to compensate for the heat loss due to vapourization the tank may be heated by a heating element 45 below the tank controlled by a thermostat 47. The liquid fuel is preferably wood alcohol, but may be any other suitable volatile hydrocarbon fuel. The solenoid operated compressors may be replaced by a container of liquid oxygen or compressed oxygen (Fig. 4, not shown).
