Abstract

1372866 Dredging KLEIN SCHANZLIN & BECKER AG 10 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 52139/71 Heading E1F Apparatus for hydraulically raising ore and other materials from the sea bed comprises containers 8, a riser pipe 2 that can be sequentially connected to the lower ends of the containers, a discharge pipe 1 that can be sequentially connected to the upper ends of the containers, a main pump 10 and a flushing pump 5 that can also be sequentially connected to the containers, and valves for controlling the connecting of the pipes and the pumps to the containers. A suspension enters a container when the riser pipe and main pump are connected thereto and the pump operates to exhaust the container of clear water with which the container has been previously filled by the flushing pump, which together with the discharge pipe permit when they are connected to the container driving out off the container into the discharge pipe settled out matter from the suspension received in the chamber. Thus material from the sea bottom can be pumped to the surface without material passing through the pump.
