Abstract

587,335. Conveying coal by means of liquid. PULSOMETER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SHEPPARD, H. B. Jan. 5, 1945, No. 482. [Class 102 (ii)] Apparatus for raising coal from a mine comprises a pump A drawing water from a sump B and delivering to a pipe C that-is connected by several branches through valves G<2> to charging vessels G. Each charging vessel is connected by a valve G' to a rising pipe D. Coal is delivered by a conveyer E<1> to a crusher E and by a conveyer E<2> to a cable F<1> that fills the hoppers F. The valves G<2> and G<3> are closed and the valve G<1> opened to fill the vessel G and then the valve G<1> is closed and the valves G<2> and G<3> are opened to allow the stream of liquid to carry the coal up the pipe D to the screen L. The valves G<1>, G<2>, G<3> may be operated automatically. Valves K that close when the flow of water ceases may be fitted to the pipe D and a chamber P at the foot of the pipe permits the removal of heavy objects, such as metal objects, that may be fed with the coal. The chambers G may be fitted in the pipe C.
