Abstract
1,031,961. Collecting slag. HEINRICH KOPPERS G.m.b.H. April 30, 1964 [May 29, 1963], No. 18045/64. Heading F4B. [Also in Division F1] Apparatus for discharging molten solids, e.g. slag from a gas-producing plant, comprises a liquid-filled holding vessel 16 into which molten solid flows from a pressure chamber 10 to be granulated, a holding vessel 17 connected to a pressure tank 24 initially at the same pressure as the chamber 10, into which solid is transferred by opening valves 18 and 19, and a discharge vessel 39 into which the solid is transferred from vessel 17 when valves 18 and 19 are closed and valves 35, 36 and 37 opened. Liquid flows from the tank 24 until the pressures in the vessels 17 and 39 are substantially equalized. The solid is discharged into pipe 42 by the pressure of the gas in the vessel 39, after valves 35, 36 and 37 have been closed and valve 43 opened. Liquid under pressure is supplied through inlet 22, to initially fill the vessels 16, 17 and 39, to refill the tank 24 after each operation, maintain the level 20 in vessel 16 and flush valve 37 when valves 35, 36 have been closed. Inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, is supplied under pressure through an inlet 27, to initially supply the tank 24 and vessel 35 and to make up losses therein. A further vessel 44 is connected to the overflow 23 of the vessel 16, the gas above liquid level 20 and the liquid supply 22. Liquid to assist in transporting the solid may be discharged from the vessel 44 into pipe 42. The rate of flow from the tank 24 may be adjusted with a throttle 30. The operation of the apparatus is controlled electro-hydraulically or electro-pneumatically by way of a sequential switch 51 and detectors operated by the liquid levels and pressures in the various vessels. In a further embodiment. Fig. 2 (not shown), the vessel 39 is arranged vertically below the vessel 17. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the vessel 39 is arranged with the outlet at substantially the same level as that of the vessel 17.
