Abstract

1312058 Treating gases with liquids JOHN ZINC CO 21 April 1970 [30 April 1969] 19077/70 Heading B1R [Also in Division G3] Passing gas through a liquid 11 without causing excessive disturbance of the liquid, is effected by means of a tubular member 14 whose discharge end portion is formed into three concentric chambers 27, 32 and 41, the three chambers communicating with the exterior of the tubular member by means of series of ports 29, 36 and 38 respectively, formed in the tubular member side wall. Additionally, chamber 41 is open to the exterior by virtue of the open and unobstructed nature of the terminal portion of the member 14. The tubular member is surrounded by a plurality of baffles 46 which at all times extend above the level of the liquid 11. In use, the pressure at which gas is supplied to the tubular determines whether the gas escapes through ports 29 only, or whether it escapes through ports 29 and 36, or whether it escapes through the three sets of ports 29, 36 and 38. In the event of excessive supply pressure, discharge of gas also takes place through the terminal open end of the tubular member 14. With gas being discharged through one or more of the three sets of ports, the discharge is such that liquid below the lowermost gas-discharging ports remains undisturbed. Should the discharge be through the tubular open end also, then bales 46 act to inhibit excessive disturbance of the liquid within vessel 10. Gas supplied to the vessel. via tubular member 14 is withdrawn via a port 12 in the vessel 10.
