821,795. Conveying solids in liquid. NOGAMI, T. Dec. 16, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1957; Nov. 1, 1957], No. 39001/57. Class 102(2). Coal is fed to a hopper 3 together with water and enters a tank 2 through a valve 7. On closure of the valve 7 high pressure liquid is fed to the tank 2 by a pipe 9 and the liquid impinges on an impeller 11, which rotates a feed screw 36. The outlet from the tank 2 is connected through a valve 17 to a liquid flow pipe 14 and when the pressure in the tank 2 rises sufficiently the valve 17, which is loaded by a piston 24 in a pressure cylinder 25, partially opens which movement is arranged to cause the collapse of pressure in the cylinder 25 and the valve 17 is fully opened and coal passes to the pipe 14 and up the pipe 13. Flow up the pipe 13 is assisted by intermittent flow of air from an accumulator 27. In a modification the water supply from the pipe 9 is replaced by an air supply.
