Abstract

1,257,816. Pneumatic emptying of hoppers. MATREP S.A.R.L. 30 Dec., 1968 [29 Dec., 1967], No. 61712/68. Heading B8A. Powder is discharged from a container 1 by compressed air supplied through porous screens 10, 11, the pressure in the container being maintained at a constant value irrespective of the level of the powder in the container. A bypass pipe 21, extending between the top of the container and an ejector 22 in the outlet pipe 23, is provided with a valve 24 controlled by a diaphragm unit 25 connected to a regulator 27 coupled to a pressure sensor 28. In operation, with the material inlet valve 6 closed and the compressed air control valve 15 open, the by-pass valve 24 is closed. When the pressure in the container reaches a predetermined value, the regulator 27 causes the outlet valve 19 to open and controls the by-pass valve 24 so as to maintain the pressure in the container substantially constant. In the event of a blockage in the delivery pipe 23, the container pressure increases and the regulator causes the outlet valve 19 to close and the by-pass valve 24 to open fully. In a modification, the by-pass pipe 21 is replaced by a by-pass pipe 211 extending between the compressed air inlet pipe 14 and the ejector 22 and provided with a control valve 241.
